My Involvements

Penn State Women’s Basketball

Since my sophomore year, I’ve worked as an Analytical Manager for Penn State Women’s Basketball. Every week, I build player and team performance reports from our program’s data, and the coaching staff uses them for player development. I also code more than multiple hours of practice film each week in Synergy Sports Code, tagging stats so the coaches can use them during film review. During practice, I record live stats that help the coaches evaluate players, set rotations and plan drills. This job has shown me what it’s like to use analytics in a real sports program, and it’s the reason I want to build a career in sports analytics.

THON

THON has been one of the most meaningful parts of my time at Penn State. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, raising money for Four Diamonds in the fight against childhood cancer. During my freshman and sophomore years, I served as a Rules and Regulations committee member, helping keep THON Weekend safe, organized and running smoothly for thousands of dancers, volunteers and families. This year, as Primary THON Chair for Lion Ambassadors, I lead our organization’s THON efforts and serve as our main contact with THON. I also develop fundraising strategies and incentives to get more members involved. Moving from committee member to leader has taught me how to organize people around a shared goal, for the kids!

Lion Ambassadors

As a member of the Penn State Lion Ambassadors, I’m part of a group that shares the University’s history, traditions and pride with students, alumni and visitors. We’re the student alumni corps of the Penn State Alumni Association, and our goal is to show that being a Penn Stater lasts a lifetime. I give private campus tours and support University traditions and initiatives, from campus events to organizing the S-Zone in the student section at home football games. This year, I also serve as our Primary THON Chair. I lead the organization’s THON efforts and act as our main contact with THON. Lion Ambassadors has helped me grow as a public speaker and leader, and it’s given me a group of people who care about Penn State as much as I do.

Penn State Sports Analytics Club

I’ve been a member of the Sports Analytics Club at Penn State since my freshman year. It’s a group of students who love sports and data as much as I do. In the club, we take real-world sports questions and use statistics to try to answer them. I’ve also presented my own findings to the club, which has helped me get better at explaining my work to other people. It’s one of my favorite parts of Penn State because I get to combine the two things I’m most passionate about: analytics and sports.
